Table designs with slim-line legs and bases help make a space feel less cluttered. Look for designs with a chamfer or bevel to the underside of the tabletop edges. This helps the table top appear ‘thinner’ and ‘lighter’ in the space.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEqually another unique option is to seek out a table design with a shadow-line detail. A shadow-line is a recess between the table frame and tabletop and aids the illusion of a ‘floating’ tabletop. By this we mean there is ‘see-through’ space in between the backrest and seat and not one solid bulky back. Choose a sofa with legs that allows you to see the floor underneath, helps light flow through the space, and makes the sofa look much smaller than it really is. If you’re ever in doubt about who is an authorised re-seller, go to the designer’s website where they should list the authorised re-sellers. Alternatively, connect with the original designer to confirm directly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\"\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"\u003eWhen looking online for authentic furniture pieces, these are potential fraudulent practices to be mindful of. Sometimes the image of the piece will give away clues it is not an original. There will be subtle differences in stitching or perhaps the pieces are offered in colours not available by the original designer for example. Other times unethical websites will steal a photo from the designer’s website, re-use the image on their website, and then ship a counterfeit fake version to the unknowing buyer. Invest a small portion of time to research the original designer’s website to familiarise yourself well with the piece you want to buy. This will make it easier to spot a replica when things look a little bit wrong or the seller isn’t listed as authorised.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\"\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"\u003eEnsure the piece can be verified with a certificate of authenticity that correlates to an identification number registry held by the original designer.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003eEach designer piece should have a ‘makers mark’ in the form of a nameplate, heat stamp or carved insignia.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\"\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"\u003eCheck if the seller is transparent with what materials the design is made from or if this is conveniently left off. These types of practices can lead you to believe you are getting the real deal solid walnut wood when in fact you are getting a cheaper wood stained to look like a walnut colour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\"\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"\u003eThe old saying, ‘if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is’, is very much applicable here. Occasionally designers may place items on sale. Some Australian homes will have a designated bar area and this bar benchtop height is most commonly a little taller at 100cm high.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA general rule of thumb is:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e90cm bench height = 60cm to 70cm high stool\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e100cm bench height = 70cm to 80cm high stool\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStool Ergonomics\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStools can be described by many different names which can be confusing; counter stool, kitchen stool, bar stool, or island bench stool. So which one do you need? Our recommendation would be to pay less attention to the name specifically and focus on the measurements instead to avoid any confusion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFirstly, we explain Australian ergonomic standards for stool seats. This means the measurements Australian designers use to maximise the best comfort for people sitting on a stool.  The main ergonomic measurement to take note of for stools is the space between the underside of the bench top and the stool seat. This measurement is critical to allow enough leg room for people to fit their legs under the bench comfortably and rest their arms on the benchtop with ease.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou’ll want to ensure that you have approximately 20-30cm between the top of the seat and the underside of your benchtop to fit your legs and arms comfortably.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003estool heights\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStools can be a wonderfully handy addition to the home offering flexibility. They also add a finishing touch to your kitchen space and encourage the family to sit for a chat while dinner is underway. While picking a stool design that looks great in your home is important, so too is the practicality of finding the right height stool to work in your space for comfort.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eseat height\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"intro\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSolid seat v’s upholstered seat heights\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt’s good to note that if you choose a soft upholstered seat in fabric or leather, the foam cushioning will compress an extra 2 or 3 cm when you sit on it reducing the overall height of the stool slightly compared to a solid wood or plastic stool. Generally, the additional 2 or 3 cm of foam compression won’t affect the height of your stool very much, but it is good to know that upholstered seats are usually 2 or 3 cm higher than solid seats to account for this foam compression.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe hope this helps provide a general rule of thumb to work towards.
