A pure delight to be commission for this special edition project to design and create a statement piece that is as beautiful as it is functional in a modern home.

The brief for this multi-purpose wall unit centred on creating an assertive statement on a grand scale that fit seamlessly into their apartment living area. Viewable throughout the open plan design, it was to be their showpiece in the home.

Spanning over 5 metres, a key feature of the design is a large oversized door, detailed with a feature special edition handle, that conveniently slides to cover any of the 3 symmetrical sections.

Dividing the special edition joinery piece into 3 equal sections gives balance to the design. The entertainment section (completed with TV and drawers for componentry) is centered to match the placement of the owner’s sofa and deliver on the maximum viewing position.

To the left is a workstation area so important in today’s homes, and to the far right is a more theatrical moment where the client can prepare cocktails/drinks; complete with concealed wine bar fridge and drawers for bar accessories.

A stunning design detail flows through the entire special edition wall unit in the form of a “fluted” back, which is important to add depth and texture to this large piece. The ambient shadows the flutes create add important visual stimulation and provide a sense of sophistication.

The soft warm light from the concealed led lights washes a warm ambiance down the flutes, elevating the design – giving it a stronger presence.

We utilised black valchromat as the main material to provide a level of sophistication and a sense of mystery to the clean design; the drawers and shelves almost disappear as the fluted channels take over the design.
