Architecturally designed residences require stunning furniture to compliment and fulfil the visual and functional living vision for the home. Working with architects Williams Burton Leopardi, FrancoCrea was commissioned to design a custom dining table to accentuate this stunning dwelling.
Inspired from the Giro table, a custom table solution, a large 2.1 metre round table, with its organic circular shape softening the harder lines within this space, superbly contrasting with the more monolith faceted kitchen marble island and complimenting a large arcing glass wall.
To structurally support this large table, a more open base support was selected as opposed to an aesthetically heavy central pedestal base. Considerable prototyping was involved in order to structurally engineer the position of the symmetrical geometrical ‘slab legs’ – allowing it to delicately balanced the large Corian table top.
Giving the illusion and adding to the lightness of the table, the top was made visually thinner, contrasting the heavier slab legs that give the appearance of grounding the table with a floating top.
Another feature of this table is integrating a large 900mm diameter swivel top in the centre of the table. This sits flush with the rest of the table top, to create a more stream less and uninterrupted aesthetic.
As this serves more as a practical element for the table, this was purposely designed to not be the feature, or focus, of the table. It’s not until you come up close to the table that this detail reveals itself along with many of the other details of the table.
Corian solid surface.
